The Ins and Outs of the Keto Diet

The keto or ketogenic diet is the most popular diet out there at the moment. So many people are jumping on the bandwagon that I decided it was a good idea to address it—is it really as beneficial as everyone says?
In my opinion, most people probably do not need to do this diet. Many of the most popular diets all lead to the same results. One question that we should ask ourselves before participating in a popular diet is whether or not it is going to be sustainable.
The ketogenic diet consists of 70% to 75% fats, 20% protein, and 5% carbohydrates. Carbs mainly come from things like low glycemic vegetables and cruciferous greens.
The key to the keto diet is to stay under a certain level of carbohydrates. That range can differ anywhere from 20 to 50 grams per day, possibly more for those who have more muscle mass. In this diet, you also need to eat healthy fats, meaning lots of avocado oil, coconut oil, grass-fed butter, grass-fed meat, etc. You do need to be very stringent about your fat and protein intake, however, and calculate your numbers for each.
Now: Is the keto diet the right diet for you? Is it conducive to your lifestyle?
The keto diet does not mesh well with the lifestyles of a lot of people. Many people like to go out to eat and socialize, but having strict dietary requirements may not work well in conjunction with doing that often.
I do think the keto diet is good in certain situations, but ultimately, there are some other diets that I would say are a little healthier. The keto diet does work well for those who do have excess body fat and need to drop a sizeable amount of weight. It helps with controlling hunger since healthy fats are very satiating and can help control our insulin levels.

It also produces good results for those with digestive issues like bloating and gassiness. Many people with these issues have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth caused by consuming excess carbs.
When I use the keto diet with clients, I tend to limit it to a period of four to six weeks initially, then I begin to reintroduce carbs once they tell me that they are feeling better.
